Death of Floppy Diskette

30 April 2010 188 views No Comment

Do you remember those days you had to use these diskette to store your data? They were a measly 1.44MB in size but in those days it was huge. Wasn’t it?

I remember using them to store and share files. Mostly I used it during my projects in school. Shuttling between home, school and friends. Receiving a colourful set of floppy diskettes made us happy and proud. Those were the days!

CNET reports that Sony will end the sales of the diskettes on March 2011.  Finally! Is anyone still using them anymore! It has been quite a number of years since I have used them. I don’t build PC with these disk drives any longer. Many PC makers like Apple and Dell dropped them at least a decade back. DVD Drives and flash drives have become a standard now.

Somehow it is still used in many companies that are using legacy systems to run their daily operations. Here are some ways the Floppy Diskette is being used.

Lets say the Floppy Diskettes its last rites. Amen!
