Bitten by the Mac Bug

I have been bitten by the Mac bug. How seriously I am affected will only be known after serious diagnostics done by Dr. Me.

I have been wanting to try something else for sometime now. Some other OS and gain further knowledge into the Mac OS X world. Well, at least it will give me more to blog about.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my current system. Windows XP on my 3 year old machine with 3GB of DDR2 RAM is extremely stable as long as I leave it on 24/07 and reboot once a week.

Why the need?

I will be getting another notebook sooner or later. Why not go for a Apple Mac right?

As said above I am thinking of trying and exploring some other system. I will need a portable device for blogging, photo and video editing on the go. I need something light and long battery life. I want a full fledged system.

Applications

Lets see if Mac has the apps necessary so I can work well on it.

Photo –Video

iLife is a suite of application which I could make use. It comes with the OS so why not make use of it?
Alternatively, I cans use GIMP for MAC OSX for more powerful photo editing. Well, you can get Photoshop CS4 free if you know where to find.

Office Suite

I could purchase the iWorks, which is a complete suite like MS office. There are alternate apps available totally free. Think openoffice and IBM Lotus Symphony!

Browser

Safari comes free. But I would prefer Firefox, which is available for the Mac OSX.

Conclusion

I will still have my PC with me. I will definitely be upgrading the system to Windows 7. I am working in environment where Windows based PC is used and hence I cant avoid.

The Mac, if I get it will be used solely by me as a portable device and plug-into my 20-inch monitor as a desktop. A desktop replacement too.

Dont expect me to be a Mac Fanboy or a Mac whore. I see things objectively and for the sake of seeing if it suites my needs. Yes, it is expensive. I am single, why not enjoy life. Yeah!!

Mac Fans what say you?

There are so many things that I can discover while I try out this system. Tell me fellow readers. What do you think of the Mac and why should I get it now.

I hear good stuffs about it too. I am taking it objectively and see if it gets my work done. Since I am going to get a notebook anyways, might as well get a mac. Expensive but I will have some new toy to play with.

None of my family or close friends have it and it will be one hell of a conversation piece. Haha

Tried osx86 on my pc and feel that the OS itself is pretty cool.

Might get the 15″ macbookpro sooner than later.

Uh , yeah – its up to you la. $600 is a lot for apple care but its up to you – since you’re going to get a solid laptop – $600 would be worth it

Yes played with OSX86. Went to 2 shops and played around while the sales guy was staring.
Will probably purchase this thursday. Now I have 3 days to talk myself out of it.
