10 Free software for Windows

13 April 2009 1 views No Comment

Without software applications an OS is just a dummy. We need different applications to make our tasks easier, be it for work or entertainment. Sure Windows XP/Vista comes with in-built application, but we will need some additional apps to make our lives a little easier.

Here  I will list the 10 Application I think is a must have. If you have any personal preferences share it with me.

1. 7-Zip

Windows can unzip a zip(compressed) file but it is very much limited. 7-zip is a free application for all your zipping and unzipping needs.

2. Firefox

An alternate browser. Fast and pretty secure. IE is crap. It is the first one to be exploited by villains. Though there have been improvements, it is still not as good.

3. GIMP

A free image manupulation software. It is pretty powerful and has many features similar to Photoshop. Go try it.

4. Picasa

Photo and Video organiser by Google. It has simple image manupulation options which would be sufficient for a layman. Keeps all photos organised and easy to view anytime.

5. Foxit Reader

Adobe Acrobat reader is seriously bloated now adays. Alternate light weight PDF document reader is Foxit Reader. It just does the job. Enough said.

6. Openoffice

Open office is a Microsoft Office alternative. It is just free. It does everything MS office office does.

7. Spybot Search & Destroy

A wonderful spyware/malware cleaner that you must have.

8. VideoLan

A video player that plays almost every format you throw at it. A simple and light weight player

9.  CCleaner

A system optimiser and privacy cleaning tool.

10. Winamp

Your friendly audio player and manager. I have been using this for years.
