TicTechTips-Unable to decode email from external party

25 January 2009 1 views 2 Comments

This problem might be inherent in Microsoft Outlook where by you are unable to view or decode emails sent from external parties.

Resolution :

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  • Open the email
  • Click View, Encoding
  • Change it to US-ASCII (if cannot find, click on More and select US-ASCII)

Another issue might be because the recipient has not set the email format to MIME format. I have come across this from Lotus Notes users. They might not have set to MIME and eventually causing recipients to receive garbage email. Especially if they have sent attachments.

    Hi,

I encountered the same problem only that my user is using Lotus Notes R8.The problem is,he is unable to open any email which is from external parties. Opening emails internally seems fine. Whenever he tries to open an external email,Lotus Notes seems hang and the processor goes 100%. 2 of my users are affected with this problem. I tried reinstalling lotus notes but it doesn’t seem to work. Please advise. Many thanks in advance.

I am afraid I cant help or advise you on Lotus Notes as I am not familiar with it.
But just to ask does it hang on all external emails received. If so then it is weird. You might want to look for any Lotus notes patch that is needed.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!
