Free Online Storage – A short review

20 December 2008 1 views 2 Comments

Further to my previous post to my post on Backup and Backup strategy. Another backup method you might want to consider is Online Storage.

I am writing this article on my personal experience as and when I needed a different backup option or options. This lead me to different websites offering some form of online storage.

Google Docs – For your document backup

Yes, I am Google fan. I loved Google’s simplistic and clean look from day one and they are following that till now. Not forgetting the speed too.

I save some of my documents on Google Docs and share with friends.

Photo Backup – Myphotoalbum.com or flickr.com

Choose these two to backup your photos. You can choose the paid version for additional features like unlimited storage and no advertisement to viewers. This can be a good backup option for your photos.

You might ask how about all thos RAW formats and high quality photos?
Yes, I know that the above services do somewhat compress your photos or each photos have size limitations. Thats the disadvantage there.
If you are looking for storage purpose, please read on.

Windows Live SKYDRIVE

Another good service provided by Microsoft. You can store your data there upto 25GB. But please be aware that each file has a 50MB limitations. You use file compression application to compress file before uploading. I really doubt your important files are more than 50MB.

Final Note

There are many other services available. If you Google(click here) you will find your answers. This was just a summary of the services I am currently using. Go on and explore. It is free after all!

I will provide a detail review on each of the service soon. Stay tuned.
