Backup again!

I cannot emphasize enough how backing up your files are important. This is my follow up on my previous two posts. My Backup Plan and Schedule Backup

Here I will suggest a few utilities that you can use to easily backup your files. The scheduled task to run a batch file and manually updating my other external drives is the way I use.

1. Cobian Backup 9
Link

I came across this free backup software while doing my re”search” on backup utilities.

It is free and easy to use and no issues encountered in my tests.

cobian-1

After installation, you will see Cobian Backup running in the task bar. Right-click and you have these options.

Click Open

cobian-2

This is what you will see.

cobian-3

Click on the left most icon or Click on Task > New Task

Here you can start configuring your backup options.

cobian-4

Click File on the left and select your Source folder/file and Destination folder/file accordingly

cobian-5

Choose to Schedule or Archive(compress).

Other options are pretty staight forward.

2. Comodo Backup
Link

Comodo Backup is the maker of the well known Comodo Firewall.

Useability wise it is almost the same as Cobian Backup, with an additional feature of Synchronising files.

Comodo Backup installation requires a system restart.

comodo-1

Double Click the icon on the Desktop and here is the app.

comodo-2

You have option to do simple copy and Synchronising.

Sync updates the destination folder in real-time if any changes in the source folder/file

Add the Source file/folder and Destination too.

3. Microsoft Backup Utility

The last one I would suggest is Microsoft Backup Utility.

See the link here for complete instruction.

But just be aware that this will not be compatible if you try to move the backup to Windows Vista. I have not tested it but from my experience between Windows 2000 and XP, it is not compatible.

Conclusion

If you dont mind some manual work, just do a manual backup.

If you are looking for an easy to use software to do it for you and automate the task as well, go with Cobian Backup 9.

Others

There are fully professional backup utilities available in the market at a cost. Some or most are affordable. It has Hard Drive cloning and other bells and whistles that not every user requires.
